“The difference between school and life? In school, you’re taught a lesson and then given a test. In life, you’re given a test that teaches you a lesson.”– Tom Bodett

Ahhhhh, I was in Target a few weeks ago and had to stop to pay homage to “back to school”.  New folders, pencils( #2, colored and mechanical), Trapper Keepers ( which most teachers my kids had poo- pooed them), 3- ring binders, erasers, back packs, lunch boxes, note cards, bic pens, paper, glue sticks, markers, crayons, 2 boxes of Kleenex and the list goes on and on.My  kids are both college grads (Thank you God) and much to Christina’s chagrin…there is no need for that July trip to Target to score the best Hello Kitty folders before they got picked over. I took this picture in her honor.

Preparing for a new school year was always an exciting time for many reasons…parents have a little glee in their eye to have the kids back in school, the kids are ready to get back to catch up with all their buddies and rehash the joys to summer. We as parents remember those great teachers we had and pray our kids have a good match with the new teacher. School can be a great experience for some or it can be a nightmare for others. We all learn in different ways and with different styles. Some kids do their best “learning” once they are OUT of school.

What has been that best classroom for you? A great book, movie, google, classes…or maybe that school of hard knocks or bad decisions…. I have to admit..I have been a star student on the afore mentioned! The bumps, kicks, and cage rattling have been the best education I could have ever experienced. Maybe they should start to offer classes like…How to get up again and again after you have been kicked around, How not to spend money you don’t have, You must love yourself before you can love another to have a marriage survive, Dump the baggage at the door, Only kindness spoken here. Life is the best classroom there is all On The Job training baby!

Today I want to give a big thanks to all the great teachers out there preparing for a new school year, those that guided my kids from preschool through college, and finally to all of you wonderful professors in my life that stand with me and by my side as I journey to discover  my  quest for a  PHD in LIFE. Here is a gold star for you all!
