“Not merely the absence of noise, Real Silence begins when a reasonable being withdraws from the noise in order to find peace and order in his inner sanctuary.”– Peter Minard

Cars honking, dumpsters being emptied, brakes screeching, sirens blaring, dogs barking…welcome to life outside my patio door. The sounds of the city might seem deafening to those that are used to the sounds of the suburbs or the country, but to me it is music to my ears.

We get used to the noise in our lives outside and we also turn deaf ears to the “noise” inside our heads too. Sometimes to turn off the noise means we must sit in silence with ourselves and our thoughts. That can be a scary thought. Maybe we don’t really what to know the answer because it may unearth your truth. Why is it I can’t keep a relationship, how did I maybe contribute to the project at work failing to be accepted, why is it my son/daughter is spending more and more time isolated, why do I keep spending and spending when I don’t need anything, why can’t I just leave the party before things get ugly?

It is in the silence we can really hear those cries for help, gain some clarity, forgiveness, or any of those questions that plague us and hold us back from living a life with joy, peace and presence. Turn off the electronics and tune into your head and heart. It is far more interesting.

Today…enjoy the sounds of silence and your own company.
